Peace, Be Still
Luke 8:25 Where is your faith?
3 Nephi 9: 14-15
14 Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me.
15 Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name.
After great destruction had swept across the land, Christ invited the Nephites to come unto Him, that He might heal them. That same invitation is extended to you and me. It is extended to all of us.
We live in a world that often feels increasingly chaotic. Floods, fires, earthquakes, political turmoil, rapid advances in artificial intelligence, and what can sometimes feel like a decline in character and civility surround us. The storms of life will not disappear. In many ways, as we look toward the Second Coming, we know they will intensify.
Yet we do not need to live in fear.
God is in our midst. And through His Son, Jesus Christ, He offers us peace, comfort, protection, and healing.
When our hearts are troubled, we can come unto Him.
I am reminded of the disciples who were caught in a storm while Jesus was with them in the boat. The winds raged and the waves filled the boat, and they were afraid. Yet Christ was there. He asked them, “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” and then He arose and calmed the storm. (Matthew 8:23–27; Mark 4:35–41; Luke 8:22–25.)
The storm was real. Their fear was real. But so was His power.
I believe the same is true for us. We may not be able to control the storms around us, but we can choose where we turn when they come. We can turn to Christ. We can call upon God. We can seek His peace even when the world around us is anything but peaceful.
I know that God lives and that He loves us.
I know that peace is possible despite the chaos around us.
And I know that when we call upon God, He can give us the strength to move forward with faith and hope for better days. Even in the midst of the storm, we can learn to see His hand, feel His presence, and trust that we are not facing it alone.
